Pool Tables: Decide Who Shoots First
Flip a coin to determine who's going to break.
You are the type of pool ball (solid or striped) you sink into the pocket.
OK - let's say that you win the coin flip and get to break. Then go ahead and break. Starting now, you and your opponent (let's call her "Breanna") switch turns (each getting one turn) until someone sinks a pool ball into one of the
pockets.
Whoever sinks a pool ball first becomes that type of ball (a solid or a stripe). So if you sink a ball first and it's a 14 (stripe), then you are stripes and Breanna is the solids. If you pocket a ball on the break, then it still counts; you are the type of ball that you sank. HOWEVER, if you're not happy with the pool ball you pocketed on the break, you can "refuse" it and attempt to pocket the other type of pool ball. Remember - this can only occur on the break.
If you happen to sink TWO pool balls on the break and one ball is a stripe and the other is a solid, then you get to pick which type you want to be. |
